Feed Collection — Turning Waste into Profit
Redekop continues to develop chaff collection equipment that helps farmers reduce feeding costs and increase profits. How much profit are you leaving in your fields?

Chaff is free. Your farmland will always produce it. Almost all the feed you need for your cattle operation can be obtained from chaff.

Maximize your grain land returns by feeding cattle chaff. Every acre possible should be used for cash grain crops. Feeding cattle chaff can eliminate the amount of land required for producing cattle feed such as silage or hay, freeing it up for high-value crops.
Chaff reduces your grain land profits when left in your fields. Nitrogen is removed from the soil to break it down. Germination is reduced if chaff is left in heavy rows. Weed seeds and volunteer grains are left to germinate, and increase herbicide costs. Reverse the cycle, and increase your profits by collecting the chaff for feed.
Cut the cost of beef cow rations by 50%. Chaff is a viable feed source for most cow/calf cattle operations. Collected loose or inside straw bales, chaff, composed of grain cracks, hulls, weed seed and fine stalks can actually provide an economic advantage to your farm. Because chaff is free, the only cost to this part of the ration is handling it. Adding the cost of a supplement brings the total feed cost to one-half the average cost of feeding hay.
Feed 1 cow for 200 days on 15 acres of grainland. On average, 1 ton of chaff is produced from every 4 - 6 acres.
Chaff is a viable alternative to straw bedding, especially canola chaff.
